How  did cats become so popular? Peoplo like cats so much. Almost half of the videos which is shared on Youtube are about cats. And this may become them more popular. Some cats have even become famous and earn millions of pounds to their owners. In fact, cat's popularity has started with a video which is published by one of  Youtube's co-founders Steve Chen in 2005. In 2007, eric Nagakawa and Kari Unebasami set up a site so people startad upload their's cats pictures to this site. According to istatistics, It now has over 100 million views a month and created a whole new form of internet speak. So why cats ? Why not dogs,ducks or horses ? A scientific study has shown that wathing cat video makes people happy and improves their mood. Plus, there is a number of cat celebrities such as Grupmpcat,Lil'Bub and Maru the cat and the internet has been responsible for creating these celebrities. I think cats are so sweet. So why people don't find them sweet?

REFLECTION TASK 2B

I want to write about an advertisement on tv which is called as "Ülker Mutluluk Reklamı" because it is really entertaining and the happiness is shown in the advertisement successfully.In this advertisement , many children, men, and women have different ways of being happy.While some of them become happy by eating chocolate , the others are happy when they have a dinner with their beloved ones.In addition to the examples ı have given , there are also many ways to be happy in the advertisement such as travelling by boat , going shopping, looking at his/her lover , and caring about his/her baby.I think that the producer of this advertisement tries to make people buy and eat the products of the brand of "Ülker".He does it by emphasizing the happiness affect of the product and by giving examples for the ways of happiness.He also wants to tell that people shouldn't seek for happiness in so significant things and they can be happy with small things and by doing something for which they get a craving.I am of the opinion that as long as we want to enjoy our lives and be happy ,we can always find a way for it.This advertisement is important for society since it can be make people think about their lives and start to seek for ways of being happy and living  a good life.Shortly, this advertisement can be guide for people in living more happily.

Dear ESRA,
I liked ypor reflection and your reflection topic. Being happy and making people happy are basic stones of life. I think, a person does everything in his/her life to be happy and peaceful. In other words, the purpose of life is to find how you might be happy and live in peace. In addition to this, your sentence structures, content of paragraph and using of vocabulary are well-organized. I just want to say few things you need to pay attention according to me. One thing is that you can write "should not" instead of "shouldn't" to make the writing more formal in terms of academic way. Another thing I want to say is that your conclusion part may be a bit longer, but mostly I like your writing style.

REFLECTION TASK 1A

     I am a METU student and I am studying in Foreign Language Education department.This is my second year at METU ,but I am a first year student. When I came to METU, I was very interested in students clubs. Afterwards, I was not able to go a few clubs at the same time. Therefore, I gave up them except for one club - Classical Turkish Music Club-. I started to go there last year. I am interested in this club because I want to play "kanun" that is an instrument belonging to East music culture. Playing kanun has always come to me interesting and I always wanted to play it. Eventually, I started to play "kanun" last year. Now, I am able to play a few songs whose notes are easy and I know the rules basically.This instrument is a bit challenging to play. That needs to be patient and to practise. In this club, there are also other instruments like violin,ud or flute for who wants to play one of these. Moreover, people in this club, are warm and good people. Playing an instrument provides people to make themselves happy and precious. You gain self-confident and self-esteem because you are playing an instrument. I think, everyone should play an instrument. You can come our club and to play anything you want.

                  

INTRODUCTORY REFLECTION

    Being a university student a lot means to me especially when you are a university student at METU.Being a university student at METU is a privilige because METU has a lot of useful things in terms of both education and social skills.Education is more comprehensive and more practical at METU than any other universities in Turkey.When you graduate from METU,you have a great deal of choices and oppotunities compare to other universities because you will be more skilful than anyone.In addition,there are many social clubs at METU and you can join one of them.These clubs is another privilige for students as other universities have hardly or very few social clubs.By joining these clubs communication with people can be improved and students gain self-coinfidence and self-esteem.Because of these reasons,I chose METU FLE department.Being a METU FLE student was one of my dreams and it came true.I want to be an effective and skilful teacher to my students in the future so i thought that i could get this education from METU in the best way.Accordingly,i am happy to be at METU.I hope METU will provide me apracical and useful education not only learning but also teaching.However FLE department is a bit hard unlike FLE departments in other universities.For instance,there are many homeworks,presentations and projects.This is a challenge for me but i can handle with these works by studying.However,studying is necessary to be qualified and skilful teacher.Altough i am not sure exactly what i am going to do after graduation,I can be an academician at METU or i can work in other universities as a professor.As a result,I believe that i will be happy anyway.                                                                                            

FREE REFLECTION

    Tea is my favourite drink and I am sure many people also like drinking tea. Tea is the most important beverage in Turkey because Turkey is the country that tea is consumed almost at any time. There are several reasons why Turkish people love drinking tea so much. First of all, tea is a traditional beverage in our culture. It is grown in Rize and Turkish tea is different from other nations' tea. It is a figure of Turkish culture.We drink it in special tea glasses ,and every Turkish family has a tradition of tea brewing. Secondly, tea has an effect of relieving one's tiredness. You can see people who say "when I drink tea, I feel myself rested ". I think, this comes from the brotherhood of tea and cigarette. People smoking love drinking tea while they are smoking. Tea and cigarette is known as a good match. This relaxing sense may come from cigarette. Thirdly, tea is an inseperable part of chatting. In Turkish culture, if you have a guest, you usually bring tea to your guest not even asking. Tea is seen as a part of good and nice chatting. To sum up, tea is an important culture figure in Turkey and it is consumed excessively by especially Turkish people.



     
                                            

REFLECTION TASK 3

       If I were a jury member of the committee choosing the person of the year, there would be some characteristic traits that I look for in the candidate. The first characteristic treat that should be in my candidate is honesty. I think honesty is one of the most important things that one person should have. I must trust that person when I meet someone . The second one is to be merciful. Mercy comes from heart and heart is the source of all emotions like love or happiness. Mercy is a part of human being. If one person did not have mercy in his/her heart, I would not call him/her as a human being. The third one is to be respectful. Respect towards people is important for me. Being respectful shows that you care about other's lives, thoughts and emotions. When you are respectful to others, you also show respect for yourself. The last characteristic trait that I look for in the person of the year is to be thoughtful . That is important because you think other people instead of just thinking of yourself. To sum up, I choose the person of the year according to honesty, mercy, respect and thoughtfulness. In my opinion, a good person should have these characteristic traits.

REFLECTION TASK 2B

       There is a TV serial known by almost everyone -Friends- . Friends is one of the most beautiful and funny TV serials that I have ever watched. There are six main characters as three women and three men. These people are different from each other in terms of jobs, likes or dislikes. The TV serial tells about these people's lives. While watching Friends, you can whether laugh or cry. I wish that TV serial did not finish, so I can watch its new episodes. I can say there is nothing that I do not like in Friends except for few points. For example, Ross is a character who is a paleonthologist. No one in the TV serial cares about what Ross does or underestimates his job. However, I think Ross' job is different and attractive for me. I must confess that there are also very good scenes and effective messages wanted to be given to the audience. For instance, as I said before, all characters are very different from each other, but they integrate these differences into the TV serial with coherence and harmony. They complete each other and they give a message to the society. This message is that being different is not a bad thing and do not be afraid of being different. To sum up, Friends is a TV serial that should be watched by everyone.

   

REFLECTION 2A

       Technology encompasses the biggest part of people's lives in today's world. It has both advantages and disadvanteges. First, I will mention about some advantages of technology. One advantage is that technology in medicine is very important for people's lives and society's development. If there is high technology in medicine, there could be many opportunities such as curing diseases with advanced machines, modern operating rooms thanks to technology. Another advantage is that technology provides people to contact with each other quickly and continuously. For example, someone who lives away from his/her family can always talk with his/her parents or friends via smart phones and the Internet. Moreover, people follow each other thanks to social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter. Second, there are also some disadvantages of technology. One disadvantage is that   some people use techonology to deceive the innocent or take advantage of them.Online thieves can steal people's money easily through online accounts. Another disadvantage is that  people are losing their communication skills, ,and they have no time for their families or friends. They are always busy and have something to do. Technology makes people alone and unhappy. They are always in contact with the Internet in daily life. Unfortunately, this makes people be addicted to the Internet after a while. To sum up, technology covers the whole part of people's lives.
